In Plaza Bolivar with Circulo de Dibujo

There is a week of celebrations for the 448 years of the founding of Caracas.  Today there were fiery political speeches in the Plaza Bolivar whilst we sketched there.  The Plaza was packed and sadly I was packed and ready to go when three  Guajira women in stunning dresses walked through.  There is a beautiful little building next to the Gobernacion and no one knew what is was so I went in and asked.  It is an administrative building for the Capital District and is called Edificio Chataing, just like the popular comic.   Max told me that it was his grandfather that designed the building.   You can hardly see the building in my sketch but... never mind!

Celebrating 448 years of Caracas

Today USKCCS met at the Ateneo and it happens to be the anniversary of the city.  We took food, drink, arrived really early as the city is dead.   It is a long weekend and everyone is either queueing at the Bicentanario looking for subsidised food  in San Bernardino or at the beach.  Doris got from one side of the city to the other in about 15 minutes and it took us no time at all to get to the Ateneo.  It really is an oasis, tranquil with fabulous views.    All together a great morning in good company.

Hoy el USKCCS reunio en el Ateneo.   Por casualidad es el aniversario de Caracas.  Llevamos comida y bebida y llegamos bien temprano.

USKCCS exhibition 19.7.15

The urban sketchers exhibit opened today in The Ateneo.   The place is a little out of the way, although the metro bus does go by.  It is a beautiful house,  Max, Cesar, Judith Alba and Maria Teresa did a sterling job of putting up a wide variety of sketches by many of the group.  The following video was put together by Max and is great.

A weekend in Junko

I was invited to spend a weekend in Junko.  My friends have a house that overlooks the 13th hole of the golf course.  I spent my time in good company, sketching.  Sometimes from the house or garden and on Saturday my friend and I trailed her golf playing husband around part of the course.   The house is at 1620m above sea level so the temperature is much more pleasant than in the city.

Valle Arriba

Had a lovely few hours with a couple of friends.  Catching up, lunch and fabulous views across the city toward the Avila.  These sketches were done on the diagonal so it is a bit of a strange view!

Venezuelan Independence Day at the Museo de Transporte

Today is Independence day, pretty low key now, which is really sad and it absolutely chucked it down with rain.  USKCCS met at the Museo de Transporte and we were supposed to move around throughout the morning but because of the rain we started and ended in the hangar.   I am far too impatient to sit and draw machinery carefully so did some very abstracted views of a turbine and the workings of a propeller and a few very inaccurate drawings of planes.  Conclusion, I love to fly, hate drawing planes!

Conclusion, me encanta volar, odio dibujar aviones!
