my sketching gear

I try to take as little as possible out with me as I want it keep it safe on my back in a little back pack that I found in the thrift shop, Along with another great find, a REISENTHEL  folding stool that comes in a little bag.   I looked on their web site and they no longer seem to do it but... they are available on ebay.   It is low enough that I can reach my water on the ground and seems very sturdy.  The bag it fits in measures 23x20 cm, really compact.  I carry a small packet of toilet paper, hand gel, drinking water, painting water and a great folding water " bucket" that my friend Paddy gave to me years ago, A cotman water colour set,  but the colours are now either Winsor and Newton artist quality or Van Gogh squeezed into the pans from tubes,  a couple of markers, usually sepia colour and a #14, 10 and 6 brush.   A propelling pencil, a white wax crayon , a water brush,   a sweat/wrist band and some kitchen roll.   A hat for the sun and an umbrella in case it rains.

Trato de llevar lo menos posible a la calle y quiero que todo cabe en una pequeña morral que compre en la tienda de segunda mano donde trabajo de voluntario, el VAAUW thrift shop.   Alli tambien conseguí una maravillosa sillita que dobla y cabe en una bolsa 23x20cm marca REISENTHEL.  Mire el situo web de ese compania pero parece que ya no lo venden aunque vi en ebay.   Llevo un paquete de papel sanitario, gel de mano, agua para beber y agua para pintar y un genial bolso para agua que se dobla como origami que me regalo hace años mi amiga Paddy.  Mis acuarelas estan en un set de Cotman pero ya he cambiado los colores por los profesionales de Winsor y Newton y algunos son de la marca Van Gogh.  Llevo un par de marcadores color sepia, pinceles numeros 14.10 y 6, un lapiz mecanica, una crayon de cera blanca, un pincel de agua, papel de cocina y una cosa que usas los deportistas en la muñeca para el sudor que no se como se llama en español!!!  Mi sombrero y una paragua.

not the best of photos. they need cropping.  I did these city paintings for a water colour association exhibition.  The top two are on paper 56x38cm and the bottom one is 75x56cm.  They are all views from the flat, with a bit of imagination!!

Quinta Anauco

Today our Urban sketcher group met at Quinta Anauco which was great for me as it is less than a 5 minute walk away.  It was hot and very buggy which is not good as there is a lot of Chikungunya around, an unpleasant mosquito borne virus.

Hoy USKCCS se reunio en Quinta Anauco, fabuloso para mi porque es como 5 minutos caminando del apartamento.  Hacia mucho calor y habia mucho plaga, nada bueno porque hay mucho Chikungunya.

some recent water colours

I haven´t been out on the street much in the last few weeks.   Needed to do some larger water colours. These are views from the flat, some done in the early morning, 56 x 38cm.   There are others but will publish those later.

No he salido a la calle mucho en estos dias.  Tenia que hacer unos acuarelas mas grande.  Son vistas desde el apartamento, algunos muy temprano en la mañana.  56x38cm.  Hay mas pero lo publico mas tarde.

El Rosal and Parque Boyaca

The Urban Sketchers group met up in El Rosal today, a beautiful bright morning.  By midday the skies were ominous,  I think we all managed to get home before the heavens opened.....

Los Dibujantes Urbanos estaban en El Rosal hoy, una mañana preciosa.  Llegando a mediodia el cielo estaba NEGRO.  Creo que todos llegaron a casa antes del diluvio.

The day before my trip the urban sketchers group visited La Estancia. El dia antes de mi viaje el grupo de dibujantes urbanos se reunio en La Estancia

Unos jardines bien cuidados.  Como llegue demasiado temprano fue a pintar en la Plaza Altamira primero y luego regrese hoy a las jardines para pintar de nuevo. Beautifully kept gardens.  Since I got there too early I sat and painted in the Plaza Altamira first and then went back again today to paint some more little water colours in the gardens.

A mental health break, visiting a friend!

I went and stayed with a friend to get away from the craziness of Caracas but even the journey was stressful!!  Still there was plenty of time to sketch waiting for a very delayed departure and then, a return visit to Fairchild Gardens and visiting the new, to me, butterfly house.  Very frustrating to try and draw, they don´t stay still a second.
Fui a quedar unos dias con una amiga para escapar las locuras de Caracas pero hasta el viaje fue una odisea!!  Por lo menos habia tiempo que sobra para dibujar mientras que el avion no salia y luego de nuevo,  a visitar el jardin Fairchild y para mi, la nueva casa de mariposas.  Muy frustrante para dibujar, no quedan ni un segundo quietos

Hacienda La Trinidad

Got out early this morning to go to Hacienda La Trinidad, there was very little traffic, always an added bonus. It is always a joy to go there during the week, peace, quiet and beautiful views.

Sali bien temprano este mañana hacia Hacienda La Trinidad, no habia trafico asi que pudo aprovechar de todo la mañana. Siempre es un placer pasar tiempo alli los dias laborales, paz, tranquilidad y bonita vista.
